This Banarasi uparna is a dupatta-style shawl, or angavastram, draped on the groom's shoulders by an elder as a blessing at the wedding. It is woven in gold zari brocade with tasselled ends and measures 1.75 m x 0.8 m. It suits the wedding, sagai and pooja rituals, and pairs with a kurta, sherwani or dhoti.
