Griha Pravesh & Housewarming shubh aarambh

Commonly a kalash with water and a coconut, mango leaves, haldi kumkum, rice, flowers, a diya, a toran for the door and rangoli at the entrance. Your priest may ask for more, depending on your tradition.

Kanku pagla means kumkum footprints. When a new bride enters her home for the first time, she steps in kumkum and leaves her footprints on a cloth, which the family keeps as a memory.

They are closely related: griha pravesh is entering the new home, and vastu shanti is the pooja to bless it. Many families do both on the same day.

Pooja items, a decorated kalash, shubh labh hangings, diya sets and German silver gifts are popular housewarming gifts.
