In a Telugu wedding, the addutera is held between the bride and groom and lowered at the sacred muhurtham, when the couple place jeelakarra-bellam on each other’s head and see each other for the first time as husband and wife. This addutera features Lord Srinivasa and Goddess Padmavati, whose celestial wedding at Tirumala is celebrated as a model of divine union. The couple are shown hand in hand within the Vaishnava namam, a symbol of devotion to Lord Venkateswara. Around them are a mango-leaf thoranam, marigold garlands and banana plants, all traditional signs of prosperity and blessing, set on a rich golden-yellow background.
